Motoring enthusiasts have collected motorised transport more or less from the advent of wheeled vehicles. Private individuals have assembled collections based on particular makes or models for a variety of reasons whether it be concours d’elegance, veteran cars, vintage cars, vintage racing cars, sports cars (particularly British sports cars), motor bikes, scooters, mopeds and model vehicles of every description.
Many people, having made their monetary pile, go for cars they coveted in their youth, usually sports cars. Marques always in favour include Ferrari, Aston Martin, MG, Austin Healey, Porsche, Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes, Bentley, Lagonda, Morgan, Cobra, Rolls Royce, Lotus and very many others. Thoroughbred racing cars include Maserati, ERA, Bugatti, March, Chevron, Williams, McLaren, Cooper and Alfa Romeo.
Motoring memorabilia includes everything from an early petrol pump to tin advertising signs, old motor racing programmes and motoring books.
Investing in cars can be so much more than an emotional urge. Prices in recent years have increased significantly and many record sums have been achieved. There are now regular specialist auctions and high profile celebrities paying considerable sums for beautiful vehicles with fine pedigrees.
Our historic motor car specialist is lucky enough to have his own private collection of historic sports cars and has participated in many a European hill climb and rally in his time. He is a past winner of the Trois Epis-Munster.
